¹ When Joash was seven years old, Jehoiada showed how strong he was. He made a covenant with the commanders of companies of 100 men. The commanders were Azariah son of Jeroham, Ishmael son of Jehohanan, Azariah son of Obed, Maaseiah son of Adaiah, and Elishaphat son of Zicri.

Azariah (Az-ar-eye-a): he that hears the Lord
Elishaphat (E-lish-a-fat): my God judgeth
Ishmael (Ish-mehl): God that hears
Ishmael (Ish-ma-el): God that hears
Joash (Joh-ash): who despairs or burns
Maaseiah (Ma-as-eye-yah): the work of the Lord
