Was hatred to the Edomite sanctioned or forbidden?
The account in Deuteronomy indeed forbids hatred against the Edomite. Does the account in 2 Kings sanction it? No, it merely mentions that Amaziah slew many Edomites. And while hatred can be part of warfare, it need not be. And since the account in 2 Kings doesn't even mention hatred of the Edomites, this is not a contradiction.
