God called Gideon to lead his army of 32,000 to meet the Midianite emenies

The vast majority of Gideon's army would not be going to battle and he lead them home

God wanted to keep Gideon and the Israelites humble to know their Source of their victory

• 10,000 were too afriad to fight
• All but 300 would go into battle with the Lord
• The enemy's men were too many to count  Judges 7:12
